अर्णव _arṇava

अर्णव a. Being agitated, foaming, restless (Ved.); full of water (Sāy.); ततः समुद्रो अर्णवः Sandhyā; यात्येव यमुना पूर्णं समुद्रमुदकार्णवम् Rām.2.15.19.

1 A stream, flood, wave.

-2 The (foaming) sea, ocean; पराहतः शैल इवार्णवाम्बुभिः Ki.14.1. (fig. also), Bhāg.4. 22.4; शोक˚ ocean of grief; so चिन्ता˚; जन˚ ocean of men; संसारार्णवलङ्घनम् Bh.3.1. &c. also नृणामेको गम्यस्त्वमसि पयसामर्णव इव- शिवमहिम्रस्तोत्र of पुष्पदन्ताचार्य.
